Employee State Insurance Corporation

Employees’ State Insurance Corporation or ESIC is a self-financing social security and health insurance scheme which provides the medical benefit, sickness benefit, maternity benefit, disablement benefit and various other benefits such as funeral expenses, free supply of physical aids etc. to the employees and their family.

Units or Establishments that had 10 or more employee, drawing the wages of up to 15000 a month are required to be registered for ESIC under the ESI Act 1948. ESIC is a self–financing health insurance scheme. The benefits provided by the scheme are funded from the contributions raised from covered employees and their employers at the fixed percentage of wages. At present, covered employees contribute 1.75% of the wages to the ESIC and covered employers contribute 4.75% of the wages, payable to their employees. The state government also contribute 1/8th share cost of medical benefit.

EXCISE TAX REGISTRATION

An excise is an indirect tax, that the producer or seller who pays the tax to the government is expected to try to recover or shift the tax by raising the cost paid by the buyer. It is an inland tax on the sale, or production for sale, of particular goods or a tax on a good produced for sale, or sold, within a country or licenses for specific activities. Excises are different from customs duties, which are taxes on importation. Excises are inland taxes, whereas customs duties are border taxes. Excises are commonly imposed in addition to another indirect tax such as a sales tax or value added tax (VAT).

FEATURES OF EXCISE TAX
It is levied on manufacture or production of goods in India.
The burden of this tax falls on the consumer.
The tax is levied on the dutiable value calculated by the general or specific method.
It is payable at the time of removal of goods from the place of removal.
It is levied throughout India in the same form.

Importers are not allowed to proceed without this code and exporters can’t take benefit of exports from DGFT, customs, Export Promotion Council etc if they don’t have this code.

FEATURES OF IMPORT EXPORT CODE

All importers who import goods are required to register Import export code and all exporters need this code to obtain the benefits of exports.

IEC code does not require filling of any returns.

IEC Code is issued for the lifetime and requires no renewal.

Even individuals who are proprietors can obtain the code on their names. It is not necessary to setup a Business.
